About Me

Thank you for visiting my blog! I hope you can leave with a smile and a bit of inspiration.

I teach where the white sands and clear waves meet. I am blessed to have a career that is definitely my calling. Each morning I wake up excited for the day. My days are spent engaged with students and enthralled in watching each and every one of them learn and grow as the days go by. My weekends are spent in sunshine and sandy shores.

I graduated from the University of South Alabama in May 2011 with a BA in Secondary Education with a specialization in Language Arts and Reading. I was hired into the same school system in which I grew up in August 2013. The year between graduating and being in my own classroom was spent covering three maternity leaves: 9th/10th grade Honors English, 11th/12th grade Earth Science and Physical Science, and 9th-12th grade French. It was a whirlwind of experiences to say the least!

In my teaching career, I have taught wonderful eighth grade students Language Arts, English Enrichment, and Leadership. I have also been the Yearbook and Newspaper sponsor as well as the school tech coach and PR go-to for the past five years. Our school is 1:1 with Chromebooks. We are beyond blessed with the technology and resources in our county! Our cup runneth over!

I recently finished my MA in Gifted/Talented Education from the University of Alabama (Roll Tide).

I haven't been able to put that degree to use yet. For the 2016-2017 school year, I am the Data Specialist. I lead PLCs, manage school data, distribute data to teachers, assist teachers with implementation of data in instruction, and other varieties of things! I have greatly enjoyed this experience.

My world fell apart on March 7, 2015 when I suddenly and unexpectedly lost my soulmate. He passed shortly after midnight from a heart aneurysm. Everyday is a roller coast for our 11-year-old son and myself, but we are both leaning on the Lord and trusting him. His word is our solace on a daily basis. He has a plan. He will return, and we prayerfully await the sound of His trumpets! Until that time, Wyatt and I rejoice in the our memories of Tony and the amazing father and person he will always be.

My son is a fifth grader, and I'm still not sure how that happened! Time really flies! He is a first second stripe green belt at karate, on the church worship team, and currently taking CrossFit. He is active and all boy! We love to travel and make memories so much that we don't have birthday parties of Christmas presents anymore - we just take trips! One year he got an early Christmas present of playing with the tigers at the local zoo, and for his birthday last April we took a trip to Orlando and Clearwater, Florida. We went to Legoland and Clearwater Aquarium. Wyatt even got to pet Hope from Dolphin Tale 2! At Legoland we purchased lego versions of our little family. I don't know about you, but these were definitely better than toys collecting dust on the floor!

I hope you leave this blog with a little something useful or at least a little laugh. Please comment! I love networking with other teachers!

  1. I have been a middle school interventionist for the last 5 years. Before that I taught 1st grade for 12 years. This year I am no longer intervening with the lower kids but pulling our the high kids! I want to do independent learning projects based totally on the Chromebook. Can you guide me in the right direction?
